What Cosmic Naturalism Claims

Author: Oak Atlas

This page states the positive claims of Cosmic Naturalism in a non-religious, empirical way. The goal is clarity, not conversion, and the language is meant to stay grounded in observation and reason. If this worldview is compelling, it should stand on what it explains and what it helps us live.

Cosmic Naturalism: Core Claims

  1. Reality is self-contained. There is no “outside” layer where meaning, laws, or purpose are injected.
  2. Natural laws are not policies. They’re descriptions of the baseline behavior of existence.
  3. No explanatory surplus. If a concept doesn’t add predictive power or necessity, treat it as optional mythology.
  4. Awe is compatible with realism. Wonder is an emotional response to truth, not evidence against it.
  5. Meaning is emergent, not bestowed. Values and purposes arise inside minds, cultures, and lives.
  6. Agency is real (and natural). You are a causal engine in the universe, not a ghost piloting meat.
  7. If there are deeper layers, they’re still nature. “More complexity” doesn’t imply “supernature.”
